The Good Ole JLA

A tradition in the Detroit Area during the Holidays, is a college hockey tournament called the Great Lakes Invitational (GLI). It is held at the old, but beautiful Joe Louis Arena, and attracts alot of hockey fans from around the state and some from around the country as well. This year, I happened to stumble upon some free tickets for the first day of the tournament and I am not one to pass up free tickets, especially for a hockey game, especially a hockey game at 'The Joe'.

The games were great, the intensity and the spirit in the Joe was incredible, but aside from that, while sitting in the battered, red bucket seats, I realized that 'The Joe' truly is a gem to our city. There have been so many great memories made in that old arena over the past 15 years, memories that have given Detroit something to be happy and proud of, the place where we have earned the distinction as "HOCKEYTOWN". The Joe has seen many great (and not so great) hockey players come and go, as well as many musical acts...there are definitely layers of history down on that ice/stage/etc.

It may appear as an old building, definitely not state of the art or coming of age by any means, but 'The Joe' holds a special place in the lives of Detroiters and hockey fans alike.

Live your life full of photos...and love.
